Different impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Italian and foreign nationals

The most disadvantaged groups might be at a higher risk of morbidity and mortality from SARS-CoV-2 infection, due to living and working conditions, as well as barriers to accessing healthcare. A study by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, published on the February 2021 issue of the European Journal of Public Health, analyzed data from Italy’s COVID-19 integrated surveillance on laboratory-confirmed cases diagnosed between 20 February and 19 July 2020 to assess the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on non-Italian nationals, including economic migrants, short-term travellers and refugees.
