Sexually transmitted infections: a monograph in English for young people

The English version of a monograph entitled “Sexually transmitted infections. How to recognize and prevent them” is now available online. Aimed at secondary school students, the monograph was originally edited by Barbara Suligoi and Maria Cristina Salfa (ISS) and published for the “I Ragazzi di Pasteur” series of books (the result of cooperation between IBSA Foundation and Istituto Pasteur Italia) in 2018. Erika Lindh (ISS, EUPHEM-ECDC) and Loredana Ingrosso (ISS) also contributed to its translation into English. The first part of the monograph describes the “Safe sex rules”, explaining to young people how to recognize sexually transmitted infections and the associated potential risks and where to seek further information and clarification. The second part features a short comics story about sexually transmitted infections, written by students of the Liceo Scientifico Galileo Galilei in Trento and drawn by the Scuola Romana dei Fumetti (a school of comics in Rome). Simple, non-technical language was chosen, with help from experts, to better convey the information. Read the English version: “Sexually transmitted infections. How to recognize and prevent them” (pdf 3.8 Mb).
