SARS-CoV-2: technical reports on IPC
Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is a scientific and practical approach designed to prevent harm caused by infections to patients and healthcare workers.
In Italy, in response to the COVID-19 epidemic, the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, has set up an ad hoc working group on infection prevention and control that is responsible, among other things, for the publication of a series of technical reports offering guidance on IPC.
Please note: the following is a selection of ISS reports on infection prevention and control for COVID-19. For a full list of the ISS technical reports on COVID-19, please visit the dedicated page (in Italian).

This document indicates how to prevent and control the SARS-CoV-2 infection within social-health residences. General and specific measures are given, as well as the enforcement of the programs and the main principles of prevention and control of the infection correlated to the assistance. Moreover, it provides information to early identify suspected COVID-19 cases among visitors, health professionals and guests and to prepare the health facility to manage all COVID-19 cases (suspected, probable and confirmed).
This document provides health professionals involved in assisting people affected by SARS-CoV-2 indications about exposition to risk, available prevention and protection measures, as well as the main features of the clinical picture of COVID-19. In particular, the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) according to patient type (e.g. with/without cough, with/without a face mask) and to type of assistance (e.g. closer contact or for a long time).
This document is about the management of subjects affected by COVID-19 that need the implementation of precautionary measures to avoid the virus transmission to other people. The solitary confinement of COVID-19 cases and contacts is a very important measure of public health to adopt in order to avoid the outbreak of new secondary cases due to SARS-Cov-2 virus and the overload of the hospital system.
