First annual in-person meeting of Task 6.5 “Baby-Friendly Community&Health Services” in of the Joint Action PreventNCD Italy
On October 10th and 11th, 2024, the first in-person annual meeting of the 7 European implementing countries (Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Slovenia, Spain, and Ukraine) of the Task 6.5 “Baby-Friendly Community & Health Services” (BFC&HS) took place at the Rossi Auditorium of the Italian National Institute of Health. These countries are working to implementation of the Norwegian Best Practice (BP) “Baby-Friendly Community Health Services (BFCHS)”, as part of the Work Package 6 “Healthy Living Environments” within the Joint Action Prevent Non-Communicable Diseases (JA – PreventNCD).
During the first day, Clare Ferrand (WHO Regional Office for Europe) and Rafael Pérez-Escamilla (Yale University School of Public Health) shared an in-depth analysis of the impact that commercial determinants of health have on the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding, as well as on the prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
The preliminary results of the context analysis conducted in the seven participating Task 6.5 countries were presented as part of the pre-implementation activities of the BP BFCHS, along with the key elements of each implementation site.
The second day was dedicated to sharing and discussing among Task 6.5 countries the BFCHS Implementation Guidance, its transferability and adaptation to the local contexts. A multidisciplinary and trans-sectoral approach was discussed, in order to support families, babies and young children, mothers, fathers, partners in various different settings at community level.
